Miri lives on Mount Eskel with her father and sister Marda. Her soon to be princess friend Britta sends Miri a letter inviting Miri and her few of her friends to come to Asland to attend the princess’s wedding. Britta has arranged for Miri to attend the Queen Castle’s university where she shall be studying about scholarly values. Britta has also arranged for Miri’s boyfriend Pedar to receive a stone carving job.

Miri is torn between the two worlds on one hand she doesn’t want to leave her father and sister but at the same time wanted to go to Asland. Miri somehow makes up her mind to go to Asland and leaves with the traders and her few friends.

Upon arriving in Asland Miri is surprised by the site palace, and its glory. Nevertheless, after going to university and mingling with her new friend Miri sees another side of the city. Miri is torn between loyalty to the king, Queen and Britta and trying to help the ‘shoeless’.
