Guest Post: CALM DOWN your ANXIETY?!!

This is a potential guest post for BrainStorms so if I’ve made it, and you’re reading this… then thank you Nabeeha lol, (thanks for this amazing opportunity too).

This post is revolving around relaxing your mind from stress, anti-anxiety hobbies, etc. P.S. I’m not a certified psychologist, so please bear with me!

Anxiety is a real issue, and so many people are faced with it on a day-to-day basis. Some people have a minor headache, whilst others have a vigorous clenching in their stomach that doesn’t seem to leave them alone. There can be so many reasons for anxiety, and as it deepens it can have multifarious effects on your body, affecting your pulse, breathing rate, hormones as well as a thunder of panic, feeling of danger, nervousness, and restlessness.

No one can cancel out problems in their life, and ridding yourself from anxiety in a whole is a long and hearty process, however there are some therapeutic methods of calming yourself down when you have anxiety, and they are the following:

1.       Writing

People used to say this to me a lot when I was younger and I never believed it until I actually tried it out, and I can say I’ve never looked back. Personally, I’m not someone who suffers from anxiety frequently (Alhamdulillah- thanks to God) but I am familiar with it because I do feel it from time-to-time, and Writing helps. The pen and paper listen to whatever you have to say, however you feel, however you want to feel, and to be honest its literally one of the most therapeutic things out there. Whatever worries you have will fly from your head to the paper, and sometimes you will realize how small they are!

2.       ASMR/ Satisfying Stuff…

I know this might sound like a weird one, but it definitely isn’t. Satisfying videos literally relax your mind to the limit, and if you aren’t into those… then buy yourself some slime or kinetic sand and play with it. It’s so distracting as well as fun. You concentrate on whatever you’re doing, and it eases your stress away. I have a fidget cube (not a fidget spinner) , but I’m not sure if that works for everyone.

3.       Art

Even if you aren’t into art, or very good at it, it doesn’t mean art won’t be your therapy. Painting, in particular, even if it’s just random lines or a mess, it’s so peaceful and you feel at one with the earth, or whatever. Try art, it’s one of my favourite stress-barriers!

4.       Breathing techniques

There are many videos on YouTube which go into more depth about this, but the way you breathe affects the way you feel/react. Breathing slowly allows you to feel more calm, and there are several breathing exercises. If you are having severe anxiety, then I would highly recommend looking through this because it is very helpful (even if you are struggling to sleep!)

5.       Yoga

You guys probably saw this coming lol. I watch Yoga with Adrienne usually, and she has some really lovely yoga “tutorials” if you want to say. To be honest, I think the entire practice of yoga is phenomenal. Personally, I don’t do it that often, but whenever I do, I feel extremely relaxed.

    I suffer from anxieties and stuff on a regular basis (caused by stuff I’d rather not get into) so what works for me when I have anxieties is to write, take a walk, eat chocolate (I SWEAR chocolate is a miracle worker for not just anxieties but everything 😉 ) or talk it out with someone about it (though, due to the anxieties, sometimes I won’t talk about it and do the former stuff I mentioned, lol)
